The correlation coefficient is +0.7062 indicating a strong correlation of % failure rates (<40%) and numbers doing the exam .The more people that sit the exam the higher the % failure rate .2017 had the highest failure rate 8.3% ever! Over 3 times the failure rate of 2012 and more than twice the average % failure rate from 2010-2016

The Correlation coefficient (r): is 0.69763743659003 this indicates a strong correlation between numbers doing the exam and the % getting A1/H1.This is interesting as you would expect as the numbers sitting the exam increase the % of A1/H1 would decrease.

On first look at the Junior Cert H Algebra syllabus there appears to be very little change.

But on deeper inspection the significant absence of equations of the form( a/x ) +b/(x +c) = d

And ( a/x ) +b/(x +c) = d/(x)(x+c)

Is very worrying

Students are arriving into higher level leaving cert maths totally lacking the skills required to survive leaving H maths

Another very worrying trend is there is **no Algebra** in the Common Introductory Course for Junior Cycle Mathematics! In many cases students study no algebra until 2nd year!
