In a review of students leaving cert maths scripts on Friday 30th of August 2013 .
Both scripts of one particular student had been recorrected .
In the case of paper 1 .The original corrector (red biro) had awarded the student 117 (marks) when the total was 111 marks .The 2nd corrector (in green) had recorrected the paper and gave the student 117 marks .Having checked with the official marking scheme the green corrector was right.
In the case of the Paper 2. The original marks (125 I think)were all cancelled out using a black felt tip pen and the new marks (140) were written in a black felt tip pen.
Did anybody else see anything like this ? I thought that the advising examiner was supposed to use a green biro.
Were the marking schemes changed during the correction process?
Projectmaths.com has learned that an emergency meeting of the IMTA Council was call ed to discuss comments in the media by teachers regarding the numerous errors in this years maths exams. It seems that the council of the IMTA is not sure who it represents THE SEC/NCCA or Maths teachers and their students. Projectsmaths.com knows who it should represent and all council members must support IMTA members in their valid critism of this years fiasco.

From the Table.
(i)In 2012: 5243 students received 100 points or more for H Project maths compared to 486 in 2011 (nearly 11 times as many).
(ii)In 2009 (pre project maths )1.1% of those taking maths got 100 points. In 2012(1st year of bonus points) 10.4% got 100 points or more!
(iii)The average number taking LC H maths in the years 2005-2011 was 8686.
The average number getting an A in Ordinary level was 4505.
The total number taking H maths in 2013 was 13014 which is very close to (4505+8686=13191) Indicating that the majority of students switching to H maths from Ord were A students .It was a wise move by these students as the maximum points they could have achieved on the Ord were 60 whereas the minimum number of points they could get on the higher (if they passed) is 70 .In fact 81% of these students got at least 85 points!
All the while the points for 3^{rd} level Science courses in UCD went from 300 in 2008 to 505 in 2013. And nobody expected this!
(iv)In 2012 the first year that all students did project maths the statistics show
(a)The lowest failure rate ever!
(b)The highest A,B,C rate ever!
(c) The most students receiving 100 points or more ever!
The class of 2012 were clearly an exceptional group.
